Me
Although my name is Richard, my wife, Maria, has named me Pooga.  What does it mean?  From where did she obtain this name?

I do not know, but it has stuck over the past decade.

I am the happy father of two smart, healthy, and beautiful girls named Emily (7 yrs.) and Rachael (4 yr.).  I am also happily married to Maria, my smurfy (synonym for intelligent, beautiful, caring, etc.) wife of three years.

I am currently in Iraq, as part of Georgia's National Guard 48 BCT for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).  I was relieved from Reserve status (Inactive Ready Reserves, IRR) on the 13th of February 2005 and ordered to report for active duty.

Originally, and proudly, I was part of the Rhode Island Army National Guard, and had the great pleasure of being part of the 173d INF DET Long Range Surveillance (LRS) out of Camp Fogarty, E. Greenwich, RI.  They are also currently in Iraq, along with the 172d MTN unit out of the same Camp Fogarty.  In fact, they are part of the 48 BCT under the  1-108 AR.

The History or Story Behind My Super Wife
For those of you not familiar with the story of how I met my wife, I will briefly write it...

I was a freshman at Providence College and like most Biology majors I was given the pleasure of taking Calculus. I noticed a long haired and quite familiar student behind me. I started talking to him, mentioning the fact that he looked so familiar. As he mentioned that he graduated from Prout High School and previously attended Our Lady of Providence (OLP), I gradually came to the realization that he was once my indoor track nemesis. We had both competed in indoor track. I remember him beating me in the 1500m. Regardless, we continued our discussion of our running days and ended being the best of friends.

Eventually, I would end up going to his house and meeting my future wife.

The Children
Emily, our first child was born on the 1st of July 1998. She is currently a student at the local Catholic School and plays soccer.
Rachael, our second child was born on the 21st of November 2000.  She also plays soccer and goes to the local Presbyterian Preschool.
